“Surely there is no other place in this whole wonderful world quite like Lakeland”

I have to say I love the Lake District, the highs and lows of the terrain, the rugged grandeur of its fells, and the wonderful books of Alfred Wainwright which describe it in brilliant detail.

In Spring of 2014 I set myself the target of traversing what appears to me to be the spine of the Lake District, the barrier of high ground that runs from Nab Scar in the south to Clough Head in the north.

Wainwright describes it as such; a tremendous barrier that divides the Western and Eastern halves of the Lakes, with a continuous altitude above 750m except for only two places. It takes in its path the major fells of Fairfield and Helvellyn, along with 14 fells of, perhaps, lesser note.
